Well, this is annoying.

You probably, like me and many other businesses and organisations, receive a lot of messages via your contact page.

It has become an all-to-common practice by some businesses to use contact forms rather than directly emailing because it uses a loophole in GDPR. The regulations state (among a lot of other things) that emails cannot be sent by organisations and businesses without their permission. Of course, the very existence of a contact form shows there's permission to contact.

So Company A, who really should know better, wants to get around the cold-contact by sending information about their own products via Company B's website contact form. Job done!

This is annoying, because for most people, the contact form is there for potential customers to find out more about Company B's services and products etc. Meh, we learn to recognise them and either treat the businesses as spammers or whatever. But there's a new development:

RANSOM THREATS VIA CONTACT FORM.

So this afternoon I was catching up on some company emails and came across one which offered to, on my behalf, send threatening, insulting and abusive emails and messaging services to a whole selection of society, with the promise of being ruined for life, my wife leaving me, going to prison, being beaten up by those I've insulted, etc.

Luckily, all I have to do to avoid this is to pay them 0.39 Bitcoins. Needless to say, I'm not going to pay.
